OZFLIX INDEPENDENT FILM AWARDS 2019 - ENTRY
Ozflix will stage and stream our second Independent Film Awards on March 28th 2019 at The ACMI Theatre, Melbourne. Already dubbed “
The Ozzies”, the awards will recognise achievements in independent Australian films made for less than AUD $5 million.
Categories including Best Film Under $500K, Best Film Under $2 million, Best Film Under $5 million and Best Documentary will stand beside categories for Best Performance (Male and Female), Best Supporting Performance (Male & Female), Best Emerging Talent, Best Direction and Best Achievement in Indigenous Filmmaking as well as the usual craft categories, with 20 categories of prizes in total.
Ozflix co-founder and CEO Ron Brown says “when you consider that 76% of all Australian feature filmmaking is budgeted under $6 million, it is way past time we celebrated this tougher end of the industry. If you are working within these budget constraints, every achievement is that much greater.”
An industry-based Steering Committee set down the rules, protocols and prizes for The Ozzies with a committee consisting of - Producer/Distributor Tait Brady, Producer/Director/Writer Jocelyn Moorhouse, Producer/Director/Writer Enzo Tedeschi, Director Beck Cole, Writer/Director Matthew Holmes, Documentary Writer/Director Sally Aitken, Actor/Producer Rosie Lourde and Ozflix CEO Ron Brown, himself a Producer/Director.
Jury members have been drawn from across the indie sector and include filmmakers, performers, critics and exhibitors, with an aim to include all voices and sectors within the indie sector of the industry, as follows:
- George Miller (writer, director, producer)
- Margaret Sixel (editor)
- Chris Hayward (actor, producer)
- Kaarin Fairfax (actor, director)
- Tony Bonner (actor)
- Rachael Beck (actor)
- Kriv Stenders (director)
- Seph McKenna (executive producer)
- Heath Davis (director)
- Claudia Karvan (actor, producer)
- Rod Hardy (director)
- Meg Labrum (NFSA executive)
- Jason Byrne (producer)
- David Williamson (writer)
- Gethin Creagh (sound mixer)
- Caitlin Yeo (composer)
- Glenn Dunks (critic)
- Sharon Ramsay-Luck (sales agent)
- Phoebe Williams (screenwriter)
- Greg Kelly (producer)
Feature films and documentaries completed in 2018 and produced in Australia, by Australians or under official Australian co-production treaties are eligible if the total budget is less than $5 million.
Indigenous films can be either narrative, documentary or shorts. Non-indigenous shorts are not eligible in 2019.
Prizes will be offered, and organisers and industry partners alike are keen to offer cash rewards, trophies and certificates to help celebrate Australia’s outstanding culture of independent cinema.
Tickets now available at ACMI Melbourne box office or online :(https://www.acmi.net.au/events/ozflix-independent-film-awards/)
